Conditions Evaluated and Treated

Johanna evaluates and treats a range of psychiatric and behavioral health concerns, which may include:

  • Anxiety

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Sleep concerns and insomnia
  • Mood-related concerns
  • Stress-related symptoms
  • Difficulty with concentration, motivation, or emotional regulation
  • Other psychiatric and behavioral health concerns

An evaluation helps determine the most appropriate treatment plan for each individual.

Psychiatric Medication Management

Medication can be an important part of treatment for many mental health conditions, but effective medication management involves more than simply prescribing medication.

Johanna works collaboratively with patients to review symptoms, discuss treatment options, evaluate benefits and risks, monitor side effects, and adjust treatment when clinically appropriate.

Medication-management visits may include:

  • Reviewing current symptoms
  • Evaluating medication effectiveness
  • Monitoring side effects
  • Reviewing sleep, mood, concentration, anxiety, and daily functioning
  • Discussing medication concerns and questions
  • Adjusting treatment when appropriate
  • Reviewing relevant medical history or laboratory findings
  • Coordinating care with other members of the healthcare team

Urgent Care Services

As a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner, Johanna is also able to evaluate and treat many common acute illnesses and minor injuries through Clear Sky Wellness, PLLC.

Urgent care services are intended for medical concerns that need timely attention but are not life-threatening emergencies.

Depending on the patient’s symptoms and clinical circumstances, urgent care visits may address concerns such as:

  • Colds, coughs, and upper respiratory infections
  • Sore throat
  • Sinus symptoms
  • Ear pain and ear infections
  • Fever
  • Influenza-like symptoms
  • Urinary tract infection symptoms
  • Minor skin concerns and rashes
  • Minor cuts, scrapes, and wounds
  • Mild sprains and strains
  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
  • Allergic symptoms
  • Pink eye and other minor eye concerns
  • Other common acute health concerns appropriate for outpatient evaluation

Treatment may include examination, diagnostic testing when available and appropriate, medication prescribing, supportive-care recommendations, follow-up planning, or referral to a higher level of care when needed.

Mental Health and Medical Care in One Practice

Johanna’s certification in both family practice and psychiatric mental health provides a broader clinical perspective when evaluating patients.

Physical and mental health can influence one another. Sleep problems, medications, medical conditions, stress, pain, and other health concerns may affect mood, concentration, anxiety, and overall well-being.

When appropriate, Johanna considers these overlapping factors when developing a treatment plan and helps patients determine whether their concerns are best addressed through psychiatric care, urgent medical care, additional testing, or referral to another healthcare professional.

When to Seek Emergency Care

Clear Sky Wellness, PLLC urgent care services are not a substitute for emergency medical care.

Patients should call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department for symptoms that may represent a medical emergency, including severe chest pain, significant difficulty breathing, signs of stroke, severe bleeding, loss of consciousness, severe injury, or other potentially life-threatening conditions.

Patients experiencing a mental health crisis or an immediate risk of harm should seek emergency evaluation.

A Whole-Person Approach to Care

Johanna believes healthcare should consider the whole person rather than focusing on a single symptom or diagnosis.

Physical health, mental health, sleep, nutrition, stress, relationships, medications, and life experiences can all affect well-being. Her combined family-practice and psychiatric background allows her to consider these factors while helping patients understand their treatment options.

When appropriate, Johanna collaborates with counselors, therapists, primary care providers, specialists, and other healthcare professionals.

What to Expect at Your First Psychiatric Appointment

A first psychiatric appointment provides an opportunity to discuss your concerns, symptoms, health history, medications, and treatment goals.

Your evaluation may include discussion of:

  • Current mental health symptoms
  • When symptoms began
  • How symptoms affect everyday life
  • Previous diagnoses or treatments
  • Current and past medications
  • Medical history
  • Sleep
  • Substance use
  • Family and social history
  • Relevant laboratory or medical information
  • Current stressors and support systems
  • Treatment goals

After the evaluation, Johanna will discuss clinical impressions and recommendations with you.

ADHD Evaluation and Treatment

Difficulty concentrating, completing tasks, staying organized, managing time, or controlling impulsive behavior can significantly affect daily life. ADHD symptoms can also overlap with anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, trauma, medication effects, and other medical or psychiatric conditions.

Johanna provides individualized psychiatric assessment for patients with attention and concentration concerns. Evaluation considers symptoms, history, daily functioning, other possible causes, and overall health before treatment recommendations are made.

Anxiety and Depression Treatment

Anxiety and depression are common mental health concerns, but symptoms can look different from one person to another.

Johanna works with patients to better understand their symptoms and determine appropriate treatment options. Care may include medication management, psychotherapy recommendations, lifestyle strategies, or a combination of approaches.
