UTI Symptoms: When to Use Telehealth and When to Seek In Person Care
Burning with urination, frequent trips to the bathroom, and a strong urge to urinate are common signs of a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). Some people also notice lower abdominal pressure, cloudy urine, or a strong odor. Telehealth urgent care can be a good starting point when symptoms are mild to moderate and you are otherwise feeling well.
Before your visit, note when symptoms started, whether you have fever, back pain, nausea, or vomiting, and whether you have had UTIs before. If you are pregnant, immunocompromised, or have kidney disease, mention this early. Your clinician may recommend a urine test depending on your history and symptoms, and may discuss treatment options and comfort measures.
Seek urgent in person evaluation if you have fever, chills, flank or back pain, vomiting, confusion, severe weakness, or you feel very ill. These can be signs of a kidney infection. Also seek in person care if symptoms do not improve within forty eight hours of treatment, or if you have recurrent infections.
While waiting, stay hydrated and avoid bladder irritants like alcohol and excess caffeine. If pain is significant, discuss safe options with your clinician.
